Florida Homeowners Insurance - GOOD NEWS - as submitted to Scripps Treasure Coast News
August 31st, 2007 11:09 AM

This is a letter to the editer that we submitted yesterday. We highly recomment this company as one that cares.

Finally, an Insurance Company That Cares

I have the answer to the insurance woes of homeowners from our area. The answer is Edison Insurance Group LLC based in the St. Petersburg area, and represented in this area by Post Insurance & Financial. Let me tell my story, and you be the judge ...

I recently had a new home built in Port Saint Lucie, and my local insurance agency secured homeowners insurance for me from Edison. A short time after the policy was written, I received a letter from the agency requesting a copy of the alarm certificate for the new home. Over the next few months, due to some miscommunication between the company, me, and the agency, my policy was inexplicably canceled. The reason, I found out later, was that an alarm certificate justifying my lower premium had not been received, and since I did not pay the additional premium, thinking it was a clerical error, the policy was canceled. Then, to add insult to injury, when I went to the agency to "fix the problem", they were told that the company could not reinstate me because there was a lapse in the coverage.

So, I decided to send the CEO, David Howard an e-mail – imagine my irreverence at bothering a busy corporate executive with a policy level problem. Further, imagine my shock and surprise when less than two hours later, the COO, Bob Gantley called me personally to tell me that he had already contacted the agency and straightened everything out and I would be reinstated immediately. TALK ABOUT A COMPANY THAT CARES!! He told me that they were a small, relatively new company that wanted to make a difference.

As a realtor in St. Lucie County who has had more than a few deals fall apart due to insurance issues, I wanted to let the public know about something positive in the insurance industry. Edison Insurance is a company that cares and wants to make a difference. And, if you want to get your own policy from them, call Kathy Post’s great team at Post Insurance in St. Lucie West. You won’t be sorry. Oh, and by the way, when I was reinstated (after adding a recently built pool and screen enclosure), my premium actually WENT DOWN!!

Changes to Real Estate Tax Law in Florida
August 6th, 2007 11:44 AM

Taxes are down, it is official from our state government.  St. Lucie County, the city of Fort Pierce and the city of Port St. Lucie each are reducing the taxes by 9%.  That is very good news for Real Estate.

The rest of the job happens in January.  It is crucial that the amendment passes which will change the homestead exemption.  This constitutional amendment is not necessarily the PERFECT amendment, however, it is a good start and critical!!!  Those who wish to keep their exemption as is are allowed to do so.  Those who wish to move to the mega exemption may do so.  In the future, the taxes may be increased by the ability of citizens to pay...NO MORE HUGE JUMPS!!!!  When the amount increases.....the exemption ALSO increases!!!!!

This will help end the unfair property taxes that non-homestead properties pay, help to jump start the Real Estate market, AND, in turn help our economy dramatically!!!!

A no lose proposition.  Vote!!
